A retelling of the Slavic fairy tale in which the Month Brothers' magic helps Little Sister fulfill seemingly impossible tasks which prove the undoing of her greedy stepmother and stepsister. The collection comprises two holographs, corrected typescripts, front matter, a galley proof, a page proof, a substantial correspondence file, notes and layout notes, research materials, a contract with revisions, play submission applications, a large review collection, a Clarion catalog and a Lothrop Lee & Shepard catalog, an undated American Institute of Graphic Arts Certificate of Award, music with choreographer's notes, two proof dummys.

Beatrice Schenk de Regniers was born in Lafayette, Indiana on August 16, 1914, and died March 1, 2000. She studied social work administration at the U of Chicago and earned her M.Ed in 1941 from Winnetka Graduate Teacher's College. After doing social work for several years she was sent to the Sinai Peninsula to a Yugoslav refugee camp, constructing a kindergarten and teaching American folk dances to the children. Margot Tomes was born August 10, 1917 in Yonkers, New York. She attended the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn and early in her career worked as a fabric designer. She began illustrating books in the 1950s, mainly works for adults including mysteries and cook books. In 1963 she illustrated her first book for children, The Brave Balloon of Benjamin Buckley.
